After the disastrous earthquake, relief agencies are working around the clock to bring much-needed food, water and supplies to Haiti. Healing Waters International is uniquely positioned and equipped to support both relief agencies and the people of Haiti. Our ability to respond is grounded in the strength of our Dominican Republic team. Our National Director, Juan Jose Gomez is uniquely qualified to lead and manage this effort.

Thanks to your generous support, Healing Waters has provided 10,000 bottles of water to Compassion International and other local ministry partners working in Haiti. The port in Haiti has reopened and, as a result, food and water rations are more widely available. Because of this, the need for bottled water has greatly diminished. Healing Waters is now shifting our focus to long-term, sustainable water solutions for Haiti as they start to rebuild the country.

We know many of you are still raising money for water bottles, and we are truly grateful. Moving forward, Healing Waters will redirect all Haiti donations from the short-term need for water bottles to providing permanent low-cost, sustainable solutions. We will continue to work with Compassion International to identify church and ministry partners in Haiti where these water projects will be installed.

Our goal was to provide immediate response to the need for water and evolve to longer-term solutions that are sustainable. This is a two-phase strategy:

• Phase I – Immediate Response: Using the resources of our 45 existing Church Partners, we filled 10,000 bottles of water and sent them to Haiti.
• Phase II – Long-term Solution:  By mid-February we expect to be implementing, low-cost, highly productive and efficient water systems at specific locations in the neediest locations in Haiti. We are in the process of both procuring and testing this equipment. We can say with confidence that we have viable solutions that are nearly “plug and play.” The installed costs of these systems will be under $10,000.
