Water And More is a program that allows U.S groups to be more directly involved in poor communities of developing countries that need physical, social and spiritual transformation. Organizations that want to do more than offer financial support can create an alliance with a ministry organization in a developing country through Healing Waters International. They begin to build this alliance with the community by regularly communicating with the ministry partner, learning about their needs – in addition to lack of water – and working with them to meet those needs.
Connecting Communities
U.S. organizations can either ally with a partner that has an existing water solution, or they can request to fund a water solution to a community lacking clean water. The U.S. group then continues the relationship with the ministry partner through the WAM program beyond the implementation of the water solution.
If the U.S. group is teaming up with an organization that has an existing water solution, Healing Waters International will select the local ministry partner based on a survey of all the ministry partners and the value of the projects they submit, which contribute to social and spiritual transformation in their community.
For U.S. organizations funding a water solution, Healing Waters International determines the community based on the need for safe water, the local partner commitment and other criteria established by Healing Waters International as necessary for its’ long-term sustainability.
Building Relationships
The U.S. organization must commit to at least one year and one significant project with their ministry partner during that time, in addition to the initial implementation of a water solution, if that occurs. A longer than one year alliance between the two organizations is always encouraged.
The significant project might include construction of new facilities, improvements to existing buildings or facilitating Vacation Bible Schools, athletic ministries or medical clinics. In addition to the significant project, U.S. organizations are encouraged to work all year with the local ministry in smaller ways like prayer partnerships, school supply drives, food pantries or pen pals.
The alliance between the two organizations should not be merely a “financial Santa Claus.” The U.S. groups come alongside their ministry partners, empowering them to help themselves, thereby providing them with long-term benefits.
